Nadia Elena Comaneci

The 1976 Montreal Olympic Games was the moment she made history as the first athlete to achieve a perfect 10, in bars that were symmetrical. And, to top it off she scored another six perfect 10s which made her the youngest Olympic gold medalist in history, only 14 years old age. Comaneci didn't just draw worldwide attention; she also helped put Romania on the map. This sporting icon stepped into spotlight by achieving an unachievable score, thus creating a legend and popularizing gymnastics as a sport across the world. Women's perception of athletes also changed due to her achievements. Her performance in the Olympics is significant enough that her toe move (release) as well as her toe step are both named for her in the event's uneven bars. In addition to the Olympics, she showed remarkable performances in the World Championships and European Championships and was subsequently the living legend of her time as well as one of the most well-known gymnasts the world could ever have. This 'Queen of Olympics' tried her hand at modelling and marketing sporting equipment following her departure to the US. Nadia Nadia Nadia Nadia 2 Nadia
